2010 marks the 15th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women. In recognition of this anniversary, the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, New York, organized an NGO Global Women’s Forum to consider implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The Forum took place on 27 & 28 February 2010, immediately preceding the 54th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. The NGO Global Women’s Forum program included two full conference days commencing with an opening ceremony, and continuing with plenary sessions, panel discussions, and workshops.

AetasAetas get 15,860 hectares of ancestral lands on Mount Pinatubo

The Office of the President, represented by Ms. Lorelei Fajardo, Presidential Assistant for Central Luzon, together with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) headed by Atty. Eugenio Insigne and Gov. Amor Deloso of Botolan, Zambales in partnership with the Project Development Institute (PDI), will award a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) to 1,501 Aeta families in Botolan, Zambales on January 14.

After many years of struggle and hardship, the rights of the indigenous people (IP) of Botolan to their ancestral domain were formally recognized. This was done through an awarding ceremony of the certificate of ancestral domain title (CADT) by Presidential Under Secretary Lorelei C. Fajardo last 14 January 2010 at the covered basketball court in Botolan Town proper. Tribal Chieftain Raul dela Cruz, NAGSIKAP Chairman and Carlito Domulot, Chairman of LAKAS IP Group in Botolan spearheaded the event.

It was a happy day and a happier event for hundreds of the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Philippines. They were gathered in the covered basketball court of Botolan, Zambales, to be recognized as the rightful inhabitants and owners of 15,000 square kilometers of ancestral domain.

The municipality of Botolan shined when the Ayta community received the certificate of Ancestral Domain (CADT) that during 12 years they have been trying to get. The event hosted around three hundred people, including the Aytas, but also government and NGOs and residents of the area.
