“Strategising Online Activism: A Toolkit”
“Strategising Online Activism: A Toolkit” was inspired by workshops held in Asia and Africa for the partners and members of the VNC (Violence is Not our Culture) campaign.
It is practical and provides accessible step–by–step advice, yet keeps a political and feminist eye with an understanding of why and how information and communication technologies (ICTs) can be used for advocacy and campaigning.
The guide was designed for and by women activists but can be used by everyone. It is a resource for women’s rights and human rights activists who are keen to develop their online activism and want to know where and how to start.
It is intended to provide the following skills to campaigners:
- An understanding of why and how information and communications technologies (ICTs) can be appropriated by women’s rights and human rights groups in their advocacy skills through their use of online tools, including networking and mobile tools for advocacy and campaigning;
- the ability to develop an advocacy/communication strategy;
- knowledge of what social networking is and the various spaces and tools that could be used in online activism; and
- an understanding of online privacy and security issues relevant to the building of online activism.
“Strategising Online Activism: A Toolkit” is compiled, written and researched by Cheekay Cinco for the Association for Progressive Communication Women’s Networking Support Programme (APC WNSP) and Edna Aquino, the Campaign Manager of Violence is Not our Culture (VNC).
