“Demystifying Asian-Australian Marriage Myths”
PROJECT AIM: Challenging negative connotations and images associated with women from South-East Asian background married to white Australian men through production of a documentary.
BENEFITS OF RESEARCH: To contribute to the documentation of authentic experiences of couples in inter-cultural marriages.
VOLUNTEERS NEED TO BE:
- between the age of 18 and 65;
- located within the Brisbane or Gold Coast region;
- an Asian migrant and your partner (married or de facto) is a White Australian male. (You may or may not have migrated for marriage. The mode of migration is irrelevant for this study);
OR
- You are an Australian woman from a South-East Asian background and your partner is a White Australian male.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
There will be an initial 20 minute phone consultation. Following the phone interview, the participant can request an optional face to face meeting for further clarification (approximately 20 minutes). Finally, the video interview will take place (by mutual agreement) either at the participant’s residence or at the Griffith Film School Studio. The film recording can take up to an hour and a half.
(Optional) In order to document the authentic experiences of Asian/White Australian inter-cultural marriages, I would like to interview both yourself and your partner. However, if your partner is unavailable for interview, I would still like to interview you individually.
