One Humanity, Many Faiths
An Interfaith Summit for Peace and Harmony in Australia and the Asia-Pacific Region
February 18-21, 2009
Brisbane City Council Conference Hall
64 Adelaide Street, Queensland, Australia
A registration fee of AUS$150 covers program kit, lunches/snacks for 3 days, two conference dinners, and one full-day multifaith tour.
Since a central vision of faiths is to inspire and guide their followers to live in ways that promote the well-being of all peoples, it is timely and relevant for this interfaith summit to focus on the vision and contributions of diverse faiths to building peace and harmony in Australia and in the wider Asia-Pacific region. This Interfaith Summit will provide a valuable opportunity for faith communities to engage in constructive dialogue with government, social, economic and cultural leaders to explore and suggest future policies for enhancing the role of faiths in promoting peace and harmony in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
OBJECTIVES
- Explore and affirm common values, virtues and principles among diverse faiths and spirituality traditions;
- Share ideas, experiences and “best practices” in building peace and harmony in Australian society and Australia’s relationships with other nations in the Asia-Pacific region;
- Identify challenges facing faith communities in promoting peace and harmony and to explore positive ways to overcome such challenges;
- Facilitate a constructive dialogue between leaders and representatives of faiths and multiple sectors in Australian society on how faiths can help enhance social, economic and cultural policies/programs in promoting peace, harmony and well-being among all members of Australian society and the region;
- Explore and recommend local, national and regional policies for implementing peace and harmony in Australia and our relationships with countries in the Asia-Pacific region
